The way I started my at home typing business was through word of mouth. You can go to Vista.com and get business cards (free cards – just pay for shipping). Every time I met someone new and was asked what I did, I said, “I have an office support business, providing general typing, reports, data entry, etc., basically anything that can be done in an office.” You have to feel comfortable “selling yourself” as a confident business woman who knows how to do virtually anything. [And be willing to learn very fast on your own how to meet your clients' needs]. Once you establish yourself as a ‘business’, join your local chamber and go to the events the chamber sponsors. Morning coffees, meetings; anything your time allows. Pass out those business cards at every opportunity. I didn’t rely on anyone else to provide work to me – I’ve yet to find a legit ’stay-at-home’ business that didn’t want upfront money or wasn’t a pyramid scheme of some kind. My revenues went up every year, from 10,000 the first year to over $100,000, with my take-home after expenses between $65,000 and $70,000. The key thing to remember is, YOU are the business when you do ‘typing at home’. The quality you provide will determine your clients and your ability to retain them as clients.
You didn’t mention where your expertise lies (if you have specific experience in medical/law, etc.) If you want to work for someone else at home, check with medical transcription services. Call doctor’s offices and ask if they contract out their transcription. Call law offices (small ones especially) to see if they need back-up assistance. Enlist your friends – tell them what you’re planning and ask them to promote you. Good luck! There is good money to be made, but you do have to be willing to work for it. Also… don’t forget to do your homework. KNOW what the ‘going rate’ is for typing services and determine if you can do the job just as well for what they charge or even more.

Most of the “type at home” and “data entry jobs” you will find online are indeed scams and not what they seem. If you are truly looking to do typing/data entry from home, you may be better off doing a local search offline, through your newspaper classifieds or employment agencies. There are legitimate jobs and home businesses available online, just have not come across any that pertain to typing.

I know how hard it is to find a legitimate home business. I searched for over 3 years. I work with Work At Home United. I set up customer accounts for an International Wellness Company. I also partner with others who would like to do what I do to help them reach their financial goals and we get paid very well for it. I don’t have to sell anything, or inventory anything. I can truly work from home!

i think the best way to make money at home is by having your own website. once you have a website up and running you need an interesting idea or product, once you have this you need people frequently visiting your site, once you have people frequently visiting your site you need companies advertising on your site to make more money such as affiliates or pay per click advertisers.

One of my teachers used to type letters and such for area businesses. I don’t know what all it pertained to but you may try that.

I searched a year after I had my baby for a legitmate work at home site but they all wanted me to pay for a service or do something out of the ordinary. So I ended started an Avon business and after 2 years I make $250-300 every 2 weeks on a regular basis. This is extra income for me so its works out great. And I take care of everything while my 3 kids are at school. For only $10 I’m glad I took a chance
