Becoming A Freelance Writer

Start your internet business today

For many people, freelance writing is the ideal job. You can work from anywhere, you get to express yourself creatively, you are exposed to a variety of formats, and if you are dedicated you can make a substantial amount of money by doing what you love. This is obviously not the easiest or most consistent vocation on Earth – your pay will fluctuate and sometimes finding work is tough – but if you go about the process correctly, you can really enjoy the work and become a thriving freelance writer. I’ve outlined the entire of process of becoming a freelance writer below – literally every aspect is covered. Reading through this should give you a good idea if the work is for you or not. Obviously this is not an exhaustive life plan, but the four steps below should provide you with an indication of how to go about becoming a freelance writer.

Getting Educated

Writing in itself is not difficult, but becoming a proficient writer with the necessary talent to become a freelance writer is quite tricky. There are a number of courses that may help you in your mission. Obviously, you need to have excellent command of the English language – most clients will contact you because they are not skilled enough to communicate their ideas clearly, and that is where you step in. Speaking from personal experience, having a university or college degree will put you way ahead of the game, and if you make it to the postgraduate level you will make quite a rapid rise to the top.

If you can, add to your knowledge base wherever you can. A creative writing course is highly recommended, as is a course in editing. Some of the work you will be doing might require you to re-word articles instead of actually producing them (re-writes). Editing will teach you a number of vital skills – extracting sense, the inner workings of syntax, and most importantly, the ability to shorten or extend work. One of the trickiest parts of being a freelance writer is the extremely strict word requirements, and often you will have to cut your work (or extend it) to make sure that you are within limits.

Apart from these courses, a second language may help you, particularly if you are writing for a client with limited knowledge of English, simply because it facilitates communication and fosters understanding, but this is by no means a prerequisite. Some people also take typing classes to enhance their productivity, but you will be able to up your tempo fairly easily on your own – you are going to need to work extremely accurately and quickly.

Adjusting to the work setting

If you are considering freelance writing as a career path, you probably have some flair with language and writing in general. People like things that you write, the way in which you express yourself. If you were an awful writer you would probably hate it, and freelance writing would not be an option for you.

It’s all well and good if your grade school teacher liked a story you wrote when you were little, but being a freelance writer is totally different. The stakes are higher, the clients are more demanding, and the deadlines are extreme – this is not an easy job to handle. Do not get caught up in the fact that you are working from home – you need to prepare yourself for long hours at the computer, straining to get through your workload in time. This is not a joke, it is your job, and you need to be as professional as you possibly can.

Becoming visible

Now that you are mentally ready for the job, you need to go about getting it. There are a number of avenues available to you as a freelance writer. You can operate independently, or choose to work as part of a stable of freelancers writers. The latter is option the best work if you are just starting out so that you can gain experience. Also, working beneath someone will mean easy work, as you will be sent tasks on a daily basis.

Regardless of which option you choose, it is imperative that people know who you are. The best way to do this is through social media. Yes, you can utilize print media and send CV’s, but most potential employers trawl sites like LinkedIn, Twitter and Freelanced.com in order to find someone to get their language-based work done. You will need to create profiles on as many of these sites as possible, link them if you so choose. Monitor them regularly – you might only have a matter of hours to apply for a specific job. Your profile will also showcase a portfolio of your work – be sure that it is diverse enough to highlight your style and flexibility.

Once you progress to the level of guest blogger you will be allowed to include links to your profiles, and this is supremely helpful when you are getting your name out there. Networking is key!

Building a network

Truly successful freelance writers become successful because they know people. The cliché that it is who you know applies at all times, even in this most solitary of fields, so rack up contacts wherever you can. Again, social media will help here, but at the end of the day you need to go out and make contacts. Consulting your local newspaper is a useful start – they may use you occasionally, or point you in the direction of people looking for a freelancer. Also, ask people who like your work to recommend you – word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Just make sure that your work is worthy of the referral.

Being a freelance writer can be interesting, engaging and rewarding. IF you follow the above steps you should be able to succeed in this surprisingly competitive field. Do your best and always work hard.

Building an Online Career in Health Writing

10-Week Book Writing Course at writingimmersion.com
Just as with any other type of online writing from home, building a business isn’t easy. Even if you are an expert in your field, money doesn’t flow like water once you decide to go into business for yourself, especially if you haven’t spent the time and effort necessary to build an online presence for yourself.

So how do you go about launching a writing career in the health field online? Follow these tips to build a business and make a serious splash in revenue very quickly.

Make Money in Health Writing Online

1.  Get a blogging venue. This will serve as a personal profile, your business website, your portfolio for luring in clients, and your digital communication platform. Whether you choose WordPress, BlogSpot, or sign up to blog on community or professional group sites  (like www.patch.com or WomensHealthBase.com), you need an online presence and home base for your health writing business. Use it to share information about your availability, expertise, goals and challenges, and personality). Sell yourself!  Plus, always link back to your site when bidding for clients online or promoting yourself through commenting on other pages or creating profiles under other sites.

2.  Join online freelance writing communities. One of the fastest ways to bring in money writing online is to sign up for a freelance writing community that helps you connect with clients. Get yourself an account on www.elance.com or www.freelancewriting.com and actively bid for jobs. Don’t get discouraged if nothing comes your way at first – after writing and getting ratings or feedback, you will begin to appeal to more clients, and the number of your proposals that get accepted will start to skyrocket.

3.  Focus on your strong suit. If you have a non-health background, it might be difficult at first to write about medical procedures, diet and nutrition, exercise and lifestyle, or mental health. Don’t over-represent your technical background, but flaunt whatever qualifications and experience you have.  For instance, promote any credentials and degrees, industry experience, and personal experiences (such as parenting if it is relevant). If you lack formal skills or experience in the field, promote yourself based on your blog writings (you need example articles!) and your interests – it’s okay to say you are a health food junkie or a swimming nut! Personal interest can get you just as many jobs as credentials, provided you have writing samples to demonstrate.

4.  Write what people want to read. If you are writing for your personal blog or if you have free reign over the health and wellness topics you can write about, then choose wisely! Writing about what is popular or “trending” at the moment will work wonders for your ratings and make your page or work seem more appealing to readers. Topics like alternative therapies for depression or what to eat to make your skin look great are more likely to get your writing noticed than a story on wart removal or how to clean your ears.

5.  Stay committed. It may take multiple tries to get a client, and even once you get your clients you may have to search long and hard to find clients who will bring you valuable repeat business. Just remember that if you aren’t online keeping busy by promoting yourself through other sites, submitting proposals for jobs, and building your online image, then you are losing money. Building a career in health writing online can be slow and painful at first, but it can be lucrative, convenient, and rewarding with a regular commitment of your time and effort.

So go ahead, get your name out there – build your career in online health writing, one post and proposal at a time!

It is true that affiliate marketing can be a money making opportunity. Individuals who have gone through the rope are succeeding in this business and reaping the rewards. Many of them enjoy the kind of existence that was not possible for them before. However, they are the ones who know that while such business is lucrative, there is no free lunch.

Ignorance of this fact is one of many reasons why some people fail miserably in the online business. There are those who believe in myths of easy money in schemes such as affiliate marketing. They don’t know that there are individuals who have wasted time, effort and too many resources in trying to go after a life of easiness that affiliate marketing business will give them. And so they go into affiliate marketing armed with nothing but myths and the notions of wealth floating in their head, never realizing that they bound to make mistakes that would prove to be their downfall.

Disclosing what the most common mistakes affiliates make can maybe dispel the myths surrounding affiliate marketing. It might also be able to help those obsessed to understand that like any other business, there are right and wrong ways in affiliate marketing.

1) Promoting only one product. As a consequence, customers are not given other options to choose from. There is also the risk of generating fewer sales as compared to having more options for customers ponder about. It’s always best to give them a few alternatives than to give them only one.

2) Promoting too many products. As a result, customers are confused and end up not making a choice. It is perhaps good to give them only the best choices. This is because it is ultimately up to them to judge which one is the best for them to patronize.

3) Lack of knowledge concerning principles involved in their business. This refers to the affiliate marketing involves advertising, and advertising through the internet could not have been better without the existence of search engines. What every affiliate has to do is to make these search engines his best friend through studying search engine optimization closely. This way, he is able to know what to do in building a better website for his business.

4) Stuffing their websites with banners that do not provide enough information about the product at hand. One way to combat this mistake is to provide lots of good content related with such banners. It is crucial for the customers to recognize and understand the features of a product, and good content will be able to help them realize this.

Affiliates that are doomed to fail in their affiliate marketing businesses are those who did not exercise enough effort to learned everything involved in this industry. Affiliate marketing is not as simple as promoting a merchant’s product through his website and getting paid for it. It is also about knowing the marketplace and the customers.

Affiliate marketing is among the most popular online businesses available today. In this business, there are no bosses to order you around because you are the boss. There are no deadlines to meet and no clutter of work do to. A person requires to be equipped with a home computer and an internet access to succeed in a business such as this.

There is a lot of competition involved in affiliate marketing, and to be able to rise above the average, an individual must be equipped with just the right stuff necessary to motivate him forward. There are five things one must have if he would like to attain the reward he is longing for in the affiliate marketing business. These five qualities are a must for him to possess to be able to stand out among the rest.

1) The willingness to learn and be trained. Stepping into unfamiliar territory is scarey stuff if one is not properly equipped, and he might get lost amongst a jungle of the unknown. Learning the tricks of the trade is also an important aspect of the affiliate marketing, and one’s willingness to experience it completely will give him more vantages in the business than he could ever imagine.

2) One must have the willingness to invest time and effort even if outcomes do not seem at all apparent at the beginning. It is crucial for one to persist and wait. It is this quality for not giving up after investing a lot of oneself in the business.

3) Have self-determination. Whenever one wants to seize the affiliate marketing world, he must have the ability to push himself forwards. Never having to say die is a quality that every affiliate marketer should possess, and the ability to motivate oneself into scaling greater heights is an ability which would actually take an affiliate marketer there.

4) One must have discipline. If a person knows how to teach himself to work each day with all the energy he can come up with, then he is close to achieving what he has set his heart to having in the first place.

5) And finally one must possess is optimism. Backward thinking and rumors shouldn’t discourage an affiliate marketer from pursuing what he has to in order to make a life better for himself and for everyone involved. Neither should anybody influence his attitude toward the business, because once in it, it is a must for him to be the captain of his ship and the master of his soul.

The components to success in a person’s own business such as affiliate marketing are diverse and multiplex, but the most important thing one needs to be able to succeed or failed lies in himself alone. It’s he who has the capacitance to do everything to be able to realize his dreams.

2) you need to look at what sort of work at home job you will be doing.

Some of the times the best place to start with your work-at-home-mom career is where your out of the home job ended. A lot of women find that they can become independent contractors in the area that they previously worked in. You will be able to use your previous work experience as a launchpad for your home career.

Some ways to use your experience to your vantage are: finding a company that employs individuals in your field to work from home, using your previous experience to become an “expert” writer in your field or starting a work at home business related to your previous field of operation.

Still, some women look at their wahm careers as a way to break out of their old employment. If you would like to try something altogether different, there are plenty of business opportunities for entry-level work as an independent contractor. Many of these jobs deal with telephone or online customer service. When you work as a customer service agent from your home, you just need a reliable Internet connection and a working phone. Companies also hire medical transcriptionists, data entry individuals and virtual personal assistants to telecommuting.

If you want to start your own home business, the opportunities are very vast. You can start with a direct sales company and sell products from an established brand to friends and neighbors. You’ll make commissions through your sales and also off of recruiting other people to sell the products. There are hundreds of direct sales companies that offer everything from aromatherapy products to candles to cooking supplies.

A different option for starting your own business is offering a service in your community, such as ay care center operators, florists, professional organizers and hairdressers all have the alternative of working at home. Naturally, starting a business in your community normally requires that you have had some experience in that field. However, there are some small business ideas that can be started without much experience at all.

A lot of stay home moms turn to the Internet for a source of at home income. The internet offers many job opportunities. You can offer your services online as a freelance web designer, writer or virtual assistant. You can also start your online store that sells products that you make yourself or have the rights to resell. Many work-at-home-moms launch their businesses online by using one of the popular auction sites, like eBay. Others find a career in internet marketing, by directing web traffic to a website and then recommending certain products and services.

Determine first off what type of job you’d like to do and then work from there. If you are the type of stay home mom who lives online and is comfortable with the Internet, then starting your own business on the internet is right for you. If you like the comfort of having a weekly paycheck, look into telecommuting positions.

Once you have decided on what category of job you would like, do some research on what it takes to be successful at that type of business. If you feel like you are drawn to one particular business or company, then sit on your decision for a week and see how it feels. Think what your lifestyle will be like as you take on the responsibilities of that job. Above all, be realistic with yourself about how much time you can devote to your home business. Finding the right work-at-home job is not hard when you thoroughly consider your choices.

Turn Free Stuff Into Cash

US only other redirect to other offer
The internet is full of free stuff and product sample offers and majority of them are completely legitimate. While it might be nice to get a free sample of mocha coffee or a free pair of baby bootees, but what do you really do with all that free stuff? Why not earn some real cash with them?

Free samples are so predominant online that you will be able to literally can sign up for five or six things every day and be getting free stuff in the mail for months! These free samples are available for everything from coffee creamers to baby wipes and antacids. The idea behind these free give-aways is to turn you onto the products so that you will start buying them, but you can also turn free stuff into cash by re-selling them.

Let’s start with some ideas you can use. If you bundle similar items together, you have the perfect “sampler kit” or gift basket. All you need is three or four related items and you are ready to go. For instance, you could put together some baby products, a sample bar of Dove soap, a couple mini packs of baby chafes, a formula sample and maybe even some talcum powder or baby perfume. Put all those in a cute basket along with a bow and cellophane and you have the perfect newborn gift basket.

To create a sampler pack, you need items that are even similar, like coffee. If you can get eight to ten different coffee samples, they can be packaged together in a neat little box, perhaps along with a mug or creamers and sold as a sampler pack. No one will ever know it was put together from free stuff!

Larger free stuff like baby bootees and T-shirts can be resold online, on Ebay or Craigslist, for instance. Whenever you get and put together several T-shirts or other items that are similar, you can sell them on Ebay as a package deal, charging only a few dollars per item. After all, this was free stuff to begin with, so even a few dollars are pure profit!

Frequently, some free stuff that is actually worth something, like a necklace or book, you have to trade your time or something in exchange for these items. This might be signing up for an email newsletter or giving some kind of information, but there will be an exchange required. In most cases this is completely worth it since you can resell the item for a small profit later.

To get some really great free stuff, look for 100% rebates. This means that you actually purchase the item, but with the rebate, the cost of the entire item is refunded, leaving you with high quality free stuff. You can find great rebates at places like buy.com, or search for them on Google.

Not only is it fun to get free stuff, but if you can also earn from it, what’s stopping you? Start ordering your free stuff today and in a few weeks, you should have all the products you need to get your own free stuff business off the ground!

Limits In Working From Home

Stress is A Choice
Working from home is one of the fastest growing career trends today. Even so, many people jump on the work-at-home (WAH) bandwagon without considering all of the limits of working at home. There are many benefits to work from home, but the limitations need to be considered before you make the move.

First, your immediate career may not easily be transfer to a work at home situation. for instance, If you work in the medical field or are a police officer, being a WAH person might not be an easy transition unless you are willing to change careers altogether. Sales and administrative positions carry-over easily, so are creative jobs like designing and writing.

Monetary value is another all-important factor in deciding if working at home is right for you. While most mothers start working at home jobs to save on childcare, there are added costs to being a WAH mom. For example, your cost of health insurance, it will have to come out of your pocket instead of being paid by your employers.

Working at home with kids is not always as easy as it appears. Whenever you have young children that are not of school age yet, could be difficult to work when they are awake. This can mean lots of busy nap-times and late nights to get your works done. Other family members and friends can help take care of your kids at times, but the responsibility of your children and your job will still be firmly in your shoulders. With older children, it is sometimes easier to work from home. But you will still have to start and maintain a fairly balanced schedule in order to get everything done.

Individuals working from home have to be right-down self-motivated and disciplined in order to get their work done on time. If you are the kind of individual that is motivated by outside factors such as a boss, then working at home may not be right for you. When you work at home, there is no one there to look over your shoulder and make sure that you are working. Any distractions can be deterrents to your work at home career success.

Isolation is another problem for those work from home. Working at home by oneself can get boring and lonesome. Be sure you are comfy spending time alone, and that you take steps to combat reclusiveness. If you are prone to being depressed, the isolation that attaches to working at home may make you feel withdrawn and stress out. Take measures to fight loneliness is an all-important part to your success.

Just make certain that you understand the realities of the work at home job life style before you commit to it.

Success Through Discipline

Success Through Discipline
With each great accomplishment in one’s life there is discipline. Today we witness this in all human endeavor. In the field of sports we see this repeated time and time again. Great athletes spend altogether their time practicing and make sacrifices which others are not willing to make.

The same is true in all enterprises. Most often we see only what they accomplish, but as in all cases we see that they had put in a lot of sacrifices and discipline. Those who have created or discovered new products and accomplishments have said that they owe all their success to discipline.

Discipline is the prowess, where having dictated where we want to go or what we would like to create or discover, we stick with our goals and stand by them with whatever disadvantages until we reach the goal.

We can come up with numerous applications of discipline in our lives; from doing homework to building up physical fitness. Whenever we look carefully at the points of failure in our lives, we will see that in just about all juncture when we failed it was due to the lack of discipline. Therefore, both in the areas of success through discipline and the lack of success through lack of discipline, there are many instances for us to look up to.

To lived a life with discipline can offer us, first we have to be sure of what we want and of how badly we would like to attain it. If one is obsessed with wanting to succeed in a certain realm, the chances of attaining that is so much more certain. To do this, one has to dwell on the want through visualizing it happening.

Next, we must determine what has to be done to attain that want. This will come naturally if one’s want is a sincere and serious one. Thus if a man wants to join the national hockey league, he must really want to and if he does, he would know what he has to do to get there.

The same thing applies if one wants to write a article to promote your product and service, or start an online business working from home. The final step is the discipline to do and keep doing what must be done until the results appear.

One great example is the story of Colonel Saunders. The 65 year graybeard gentleman from Kentucky, who had a dream to start a chain of fried chicken restaurants worldwide, to realize that dream, he knew that he needed to partner with someone to open the first restaurant and to fry chicken according to his secret recipe. Colonel Saunders knocked on 1008 doors before he found a restaurant owner willing to share his dream.

That was success through the power of discipline!

Six Steps to Setting up a Money Blog

January 18, 2012 by

Making money blogging doesn’t happen overnight, but with patience and persistence it can be a fun way to earn money without leaving the house. There are six steps to setting up a successful blog and making money from it, which are…

1. Decide on a niche
2. Set up a site
3. Produce Content
4. Be Patient (Yes, this is a real step)
5. Add whistles and bells
6. Monetize

Let’s look at each step in greater detail.

Decide on a niche

A great niche for you is one that you are both passionate about and has enough people willing to spend enough money for the niche to be profitable. Once you have decided on a niche that has enough people who spend money in it, consider the competition in that niche. If you are interested in an extremely competitive niche, “such as health,” don’t be discouraged by the heavy competition. In that case, you can choose a “sub-niche.” A sub-niche, for example, would be people of a certain age group, ethnic group, religious group, or local area within the general niche. For example, a sub-niche of “health” would be “University students interested in health.”

Set up a site at WordPress, Blogger, or Typepad

Although there are numerous ways of setting up blog sites, WordPress, Blogger, and Typepad are the best. If you have limited resources, and you have never set up a blog before try Blogger or WordPress.com. They are both free, very powerful, and easy to use. For more experienced bloggers, who want a top-notch blog I recommend WordPress.org or Typepad. Be warned, WordPress.org does require that you have your own hosting account and domain name, which both cost money, and Typepad requires a monthly fee.

It’s a good idea to include “like” buttons and other such social media buttons on the site so that readers who like what they see can share your greatness with their social groups. Additionally, consider having a newsletter sign up. When you begin to build a newsletter email list you can continuously engage your readers by sending them emails about new posts, upcoming events, and eventually you can market to them too.

Produce awesome content

Producing great content requires considering who your readers are, and considering what they will be interested in learning about. Be sure to give your readers information that they are looking for and will appreciate.

Writing is not the only content that bloggers produce, consider making videos too. Often ideas or directions can be communicated much more clearly through a video than in the written word.

Include pictures of either yourself of something relevant to your post. A great resource for free pictures is stock xchng.

Find awesome information. If you have access to sources of information other than regular search engine results include that type of unique and fresh information. What often happens on the internet is what I call “content recycling.” Content recycling is a phenomenon where the same information is reprinted by everyone on the internet simply because everyone decided to search for information on their topics from the top ranked sites in Google. Fresh content engages readers and it draws the attention of the search engines.

Give it some time

Before jumping to monetize a new blog, it’s a good idea to let it gain some momentum. After a few months of producing great content, you can hope to gain some exposure through search engines and social media. Monetizing a site too early can stunt it’s search engine rankings, so continuously producing great content without monetizing is a strategically valuable step.

Add whistles and bells (optional)

Once you have spawned some interest in your blog you can begin to tactfully flaunt it. Consider adding any of the Facebook social plugins or include your Twitterfeed on your site itself. Also, if you are getting great feedback from readers, you can add a page of things that your readers are saying about you, accompanied by their pictures, of course.

Monetize

Once you have built of a base of people that trust you, they are eligible to be your customers. Now you can monetize your blog with banner advertisements. It is also possible to affiliate market through links in your blog posts.
It is important to monetize the blog tactfully. Here are two good advertizing rules to follow…

* Only recommend products that you really know about

* Produce enough great content that the advertizing remains secondary and the content remains primary.

Conclusion

Of course each niche is different, and each blogger is different, so in addition to these 6 steps you are free to be creative, experiment, and have fun with your blog.
