Preventative Measures Against SIDS
SIDS, stands for sudden infant death syndrome, and is a very alarming matter because most of the time it is something that simply can not be helped. Ofttimes a baby who dies from SIDS will just be found dead in their crib. There is often nothing that can be done about it, and the mothers and fathers who have to deal with this are left without a child, and many are scarred.

Another thing that you have to remember is that the baby should be put to sleep on his back, or, if you prefer, propped up on his side. If you want to put the baby to sleep on his side you should make sure that he is braced very carefully from the front and also from the back. This will mean that he will be on his side and unable to move over. In recent years, however, the push has been to put the baby to sleep on his back at all times. This means that you have to make sure that the baby has been burped, so they do not spit up while they are sleeping and choke.
Putting a baby to sleep on his back with no loose covers and having nothing in the crib that he could suffocate with is the best way to prevent SIDS from happening. However, another important thing that you have to do is check on your baby often while they are sleeping. A baby monitor will allow you to be able to see if the baby is sleeping well and know right away if there is a problem.
Another thing to remember is that you should not have a cat or dog that can jump into the baby's crib. You run the risk of knocking the crib over or the baby suffering from allergies. While it may be an old wives tale that cats have been known to accidentally smother a baby, you still do not want your cat or any other pet to have access to your baby unattended. Make certain that you don’t ever allow them to get into the room while the baby is sleeping.
